Scholarships are typically awarded based on academic merit. Bursaries and grants are usually given based on financial need but can also require extracurricular and community involvement for eligibility.

Below you will find a list of organizations that offer scholarships and bursaries with their links attached to help you get started.


York University Scholarship, Bursary, and Awards Search

This tool lets you view awards, scholarships, prizes and bursaries offered at York University. Explore awards you may be eligible for: you can search by Faculty, award type, activity level or type in the name of an award that you may be familiar with. Unless otherwise stated, all full-time, part-time and mature students are eligible for all the awards in the system so long as they meet the published criteria. Ethnic-based scholarships can also be found.

Some of the scholarships/bursaries found on here include, but not limited to, the Ahrens scholarship, which is based on the program and academic merits, Or, the Malcolm Streete Memorial Scholarship, which is based on community involvement in the Jane-Finch, Oakwood, and Regent Part communities and with preference given to African or Afro-Caribbean candidates.

Council of Educators of Toronto

The website for the Council of Educators of Toronto has an extensive list of scholarships and bursaries awarded for students pursuing post-secondary studies. You can navigate using the drop-down menus on the website to find scholarships and bursaries offered by many universities and organizations in the Toronto Area, including York University.

RBC Royal Bank Scholarship Awards for Undergraduates

This program has two categories. It awards students enrolled in their graduating year in a Canadian secondary school or, who have graduated within the past 2 years.

The Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation’s National Citizenship Award and Scholarship Program 

This program provides merit-based scholarships to secondary students across Canada who exhibit exemplary citizenship qualities in their communities through extensive community service, volunteerism and humanitarian causes. The National Citizenship Award and Scholarship Program is open to every graduating high school or CEGEP student from coast-to-coast-to-coast.
